The Québec violinist, Olivier Brault, renowned for his extensive knowledge and exploration of historic musical interpretation, dance and theatre, brings his lively enthusiasm to the field of baroque and classical music both as soloist and chamber musician. In 2007 he was awarded a Doctorate for “Music for Violin and Continuo in Eighteenth-Century France” at the University of Montréal. He currently leads La Bande Montréal Baroque, is the director of the ensemble Sonate 1704, first violinist of the Quatuor Franz Joseph, first violinist and associate music director of Apollo’s Fire [Clevand Baroque Orchestra], musical director and soloist with Les Idées Heureuses and first violinist and soloist with Ensemble Caprice. He can be found at the heart of many ensembles and festivals both in Canada and abroad. In recent years, he played with Baroque SaMuse in several premieres of Hendrik Bouman's chamber music, notably in the Festival Montréal Baroque 2007. In Autumn 2009 Olivier Brault joined Hendrik Bouman’s ensemble The Baroque Muse in the premiere and recording of Hendrik Bouman's 5 Baroque Concertos for Anna in Sussex, United Kingdom, released in January 2011. Hendrik Bouman dedicated to Olivier Brault and Simon Standage his Duo in E major for two violins and Trio Sonata in A major for two violins and basso continuo which he composed for them in February and March 2011. Olivier Brault has participated in many award-winning recordings and teaches baroque chamber music at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal.
