Tormod Dalen, a Norwegian cellist residing in Paris, is co-founder of Ensemble Braccio which specialises in the earliest music for the violin family. He is also principal cellist of Hervé Niquet's Concert Spirituel, and performs with Le Poème Harmonique, Les Embassadeurs, Doulce Mémoire and his own ensemble Ritratto dell’ Amore.
He already performed Hendrik Bouman's contemporary Baroque compositions in 2002, in the Wallonie Festival in Belgium and in Autumn 2009 he joined Hendrik Bouman as principal cellist and soloist of The Baroque Muse with which he premiered and recorded Hendrik Bouman's Cello Concerto in A minor, released in January 2011. In May 2011 he will record on CD Hendrik Bouman’s Cello Suite in D major.
Tormod Dalen has recorded for Glossa, Deutsche Gramophon, Emi, Calliope... and can be heard regularly on Radio France. He teaches the baroque cello at the Conservatoire National Régional de Toulouse and is currently working on a doctorate on choreographic gestures in the Bach cello suites at the Norwegian National Academy of Music.
